American Idol losing its popularity?

Submitted by on September 6, 2010 No Comment

The ratings for the “American Idol” have considerably declined by 18 percent this season. To add to the woes, attendance at the American Idol Live on Friday at the Target Center was down by 55 percent as compared to the last season, which was roughly around 5000. Moreover, the quality of the performances of the 10 finalists has also fallen by 65 percent, indicating a decrease in popularity of the famous musical talent show.

There was not a single contestant on the Friday episode whose performance resembled that of Adam Lambert or Allison Iraheta. After the best season with Adam Lambert, the ninth season lacked the star quality, stage craft and music as the previous season. Moreover, the singers performing live were also disappointing.

The concert which was held in a sparsely filled arena had Lee DeWyze as the winner, who was neither better nor worse than the winner of the previous 2009 season Kris Allen. The 24 year old paint salesman by profession did not portray the traits of a future rock star. Possessing a rather forceful and an indistinctive voice, he did come very close to Adam Duritz of Counting Crows without long hairs and tried to be poetic.

The song sung by him John Leon’s “Use Somebody” might be termed as bombastic as well as his interpretation of Leonard Cohen’s “Hallelujah” was the worst one ever heard before. However, the big find of the show was Casey James, who finished third in this season’s competition. Add to this, he also signed a contract with a country record label, an aspirant for a electric guitar heroic. He apparently got depressed on Black Keys” I Got Mine” and also portrayed his George Thorogood inclination and picking up a song of the Rolling Stone. James possesses Goldilocks like looks as a rock star but his voice was as simple as his name.
