American Idol: ‘The Top 3 Finalists Perform’ review
With only three contestants remaining, each of them performed thrice during the tonight’s episode. One of the songs for each contestant was picked up by the judges, the second by Jimmy Iovine and the third was of contestants’ choice. Also, the famous singer Beyonce appeared on the show as the guest mentor.

The Contestants’ Pick Ups
Scotty McCreery
When McCreery sang Amazed Lonestar Jennifer couldn’t stop herself from commenting, “I’m sure there are a million girls out there wishing you were singing that song to them.” Complaining of a one or two “iffy spots” in the performance, Randy appreciated the choice of the song and liked the overall performance. Impressed, Steven appreciated the performance saying, “I think you just keep getting better and better with your melody and singing. You took that song up a notch.”
Lauren Alaina
Aliana sang Wild One Faith Hill and this is what Jennifer had to say of the performance: “Laruen, our little baby, you come out here and attack it like that, that’s what you got to do. You have to attack like that every time.” Randy says he loves seeing her on stage. Steven says it seemed to him that the song belonged to her, adding: “You’re so ready for America to be all over you. I’m so happy for you.” Beyonce has a piece of advice for the singer. She advises her to “psyche” herself up a little before performing.
Haley Reinhart
Reinhart slips on the stairway during the performance. She is accompanied by her father Led Zeppelin and manages to extract a standing ovation from the judges for her getting back so well even after tripping. According to Jennifer, it is a true sign of a professional and calling Reinhart “fearless” Randy adds “that’s what it’s all about.” Steven applauds the performance too. Reinhart sang What is and What Should Never Be.
The Mentor’s Choice
Scotty McCreery
Jennifer thinks Scotty was “in the zone” during the performance and Randy praises Jimmy for allotting McCreery Are You Gonna Kiss Me or Not? Steven says, “You were living that one. It was beautiful. Your real character was showing through.” Also, Jennifer jokingly asks McCreery to shave his head once again for the finale.
Lauren Alaina
Unfortunately for the woman, there is a minor accident just as she begins to sing. Her pantyhose rips and she needs to apply some make up on her legs before she could start singing. In spite, Alaina manages to force Jennifer to call her performance the “most beautiful” and Randy adds it went “right back up.” Steven is no less impressed and says she “nailed” the song. She sang If I Die Young by The Band Perry.
Haley Reinhart
Jennifer finds Haley beautiful and at the same time wishes she could have “taken it (the performance) a little further at the end.” Randy appreciates the perfect pitch of the singer and jokes he would love grow his hair long if he could only get a wind machine. Steven calls Reinhart’s singing of Rhiannon a nice contrast to her first performance.
The Judges’ Choice
Scotty McCreery
The judges’ choice was She Believes In Me by Kenny Rogers and Jennifer says the song was chosen because they wanted to see if he hit the big chorus. Then she adds: “I guess you showed us! Good job, I’m proud of you.” Randy calls the performance “sweet and tender” and agrees with Jennifer that he managed the chorus. It is Steven who is the most impressed. He says, “You put it over the top for me. That was it right there.”
Lauren Alaina
“This does not lie! You cannot buy these! These are not for sale, they only come out when someone makes them come out. You have given me goosies from head to toe. That was beautiful. I’m going to dare to say that you have won that round for me already.” That’s how Jennifer describes Aliana’s performance on I Hope You Dance. Both Randy and Steven agree with Jennifer and call it a good performance.
Haley Reinhart
Jennifer is of the opinion that there is no one who could compare to Reinhart when it comes to singing chorus. Randy says: “America’s got their work cut out for them. Those were some amazing choruses by you.” He believes Reinhart has what it takes to “win it.” Steven agrees with both judges and calls this performance perfect.
